Our client provides cutting edge science and technology solutions into crucial industries such as defense, intelligence and healthcare, and as such they have built strong teams across their various locations in the UK who are working hard to support vital missions and solve the world’s toughest problems.

Due to the continued success and growth of the business, they are looking for an experienced Software Engineering Manager to lead their existing engineering team based in Central Glasgow and focus on expanding the team and improving both technologies and processes used with an eye on becoming the market leaders.

The Role:  

You will build a motivated software delivery team with a strong reputation within the market which customers can depend on. You will create a nurturing team environment which promotes professional development of both individuals and the team as a whole, with a focus on continuous improvement.

You will be expected to:

  • Define and document approaches and processes within the team, setting a team culture
  • Contribute to the improvement and communication of best practices across the organisation
  • Maintain and improve the environments, tools and facilities used within the team
  • Key up to date with new technologies which could be incorporated to improve collaboration, quality and efficiency
  • Assist in defining the product roadmap
  • Manage capacity vs demand
  • Consider incorporating new principles into the team such as agile and DevOps
  • Identify and solve potential silos of information within the team

You will be required to undergo Security Clearance, so all candidates must have the right to work in the UK with at least five years’ traceable work history in the UK.

Role Requirements:

In order to be successful in this role, you will be an experienced Engineering or Development Manager and have managed teams of 30+ individuals in an Agile environment.  As well as this you will have experience and understanding in the following areas:

  • Thorough knowledge of the full software development lifecycle
  • Experience of software support
  • Experience across a range of software technologies, architectures and products such as web applications, business intelligence, databases, mobile, cloud storage etc.
  • Knowledge and experience of operating an agile environment
  • Experience of managing delivery teams through collaborative toolsets
  • Experience of using and implementing automation and DevOps tools
  • Experience as a Product Owner is advantageous
