It means creative solutions to problems using innovative design implementation and testing of systems and services with a focus on security, scalability and sustainability.  Our client is on the lookout for talented individuals to apply their software development and data engineering skills for solving problems with data across a number of sectors including civil, health and defence.  You will work closely within the software engineering practice with other technologists to form an integral part of the team.

About You:

You will be a go-to person within the software engineering team for Python development. You will have excellent coding skills coupled with automated deployment and environment management practices. You will be comfortable working within our customer's organisations and help them meet their goals using your technical experience, implementation and communication skills. You'll be well versed in Agile, and happy to participate in stand-ups, retrospectives, design and planning sessions. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Build and work on distributed systems that process large amounts of real-time data 
  • Manage advanced and highly complex software design and development in primary technologies
  • Perform unit and integration testing of software stories and modules on the most complex projects
  • Lead peer reviews and code walkthroughs - mentoring more junior team members in these processes
  • Perform complex defect resolution during all testing phases including user acceptance testing
  • Participate and provide in retrospective reviews after product release and provide support and participate in the estimation process for new work packages and releases
  • Participate in key initiatives as assigned to implement best practices in development and testing

Skills: 

  • Proven experience of commercial development with Python 
  • Experience with PySpark or Spark 
  • Technologies; Linux, REST APIs – revisit 
  • Experience of working within an Agile environment 
  • Experience with Distributed- and Service-Oriented Architecture
  • Amazon Web Services or other cloud infrastructure
  • Test Driven Development (TDD) and Continuous Integration (CI) 

Desirable skills: 

  • AWS, Data analytics
