Our client provides cutting edge science and technology solutions into public sector clients and as such they have built strong teams across their various locations in the UK who are working hard to support vital missions and solve the world’s toughest problems. Due to the continued success and growth of the business, they are looking for a Project Manager for projects for their client in Glasgow City Centre.

Reporting to the Programme Manager, the Project Manager will manage two projects; a DevOps & Automated Testing Practices project and a Cloud Adoption and PaaS project.

The role will typically be a 50:50 split between the projects, however this may vary depending on status.

Key Accountabilities of the Project Manager role:

  • The project manager will follow the project delivery model specifically, discovery & inception stages, which work out the requirements and the business case, with a clear definition of the delivery approaches aligned to the approved business case.
  • DevOps & Automated Testing project – responsible for leading a core team (from the 2 areas) to assess the current As-Is position for these 2 areas and determine (with the support of an external partner) the To-Be position for SLC.  This will include training, staff development, toolsets, etc.  The objective is to deliver a roadmap, with a delivery model that has been fully costed and approved.
  • Cloud Adoption & PaaS project - a similar As-Is and To-Be investigation to be underway.  Again, output is fully defined business case to support delivery of this strategic approach.
  • Adhere to project management standards, methodologies and practices via the Programme Manager and the Corporate PMO
  • Manage cross-cutting project issues and secure satisfactory resolution, escalating to the programme where necessary
  • Ensure regular dialogue with all project suppliers and stakeholders to promote problem solving, team working and risk-sharing
  • Deliver projects according to the appropriate quality standard, on time and within budget through monthly monitoring
  • Manage third party contributions to projects as appropriate
  • Ensure benefits and performance targets of the project activities are identified,  measured and monitored.

Skills & experience required for Project Manager role:

  • Significant experience as a Project manager with extensive knowledge of software delivery approaches and track record of successful delivery of software development projects
  • Must have experience of the implementation of a DevOps approach, implementation of automated testing approaches and of the adoption of Cloud/PaaS
  • Ideally from a public-sector background, with experience of policy driven delivery in a financial or regulatory environment
  • Experience of Data Centre migration of systems, both in-premise and Cloud
  • Prince 2 qualified with proven track record of applying project management methodologies and practices in a complex ICT/business project delivery environment
  • Experience of working in an agile delivery environment
  • Experience of working in a strong ICT focussed business environment
  • Successful management of 3rd Party Service Providers and experience of managing and delivering large procurement exercises, preferably in the public sector
