You will be accountable for designing, some build, and supporting AWS infrastructure as code, and tooling.

The role, all in an AWS world:

  • Own the day-to-day detail of contracts with AWS and logging, liaising and chasing support tickets with AWS.
  • Create, own and maintain the AWS infrastructure roadmap and tooling roadmap
  • Create, own and maintain all logical diagrams
  • Create all initial physical diagrams
  • In conjunction with Devops team, create, own and maintain standards for AWS naming and AWS build standards (the latter in Terraform – in Stash)
  • Control access for:
  • Work with Devops team and lead on:
  • Test and ensure all Devops team build work
  • Build some of the AWS infrastructure yourself, in Terraform
  • Attend Architecture Design Boards, submit to the same, and gain necessary decisions.
  • Analyze business requirements to develop infrastructure solutions within AWS
  • Provide L3 support for all aspects of AWS infrastructure architecture, and tooling, for everything we have so far delivered into Production. Final backstop person to resolve any and all such issues, on a root cause fix basis. Significant experience of the same.
  • Create and implement a rolling plan for upgrading of AWS infrastructure.
  • provide technical leadership and consultancy to both internal and external development teams, ensuring AWS infrastructure, and all tooling, is fit for purpose, whilst meeting time, performance, security and budget constraints
  • encourage communication across multiple development teams to identify strategic requirements and dependencies
  • enable a positive technical culture, applying agile methods to development and completing quality assurance practices
  • advise product managers on the estimated effort and technical implications of current user stories, as well as those in the backlog
  • form relationships with external suppliers
  • help enable the reuse of patterns, tools, and components across the whole government service landscape

  • It’s essential that you have:
  • Significant experience of everything below at scale: At least several hundred VMs.
  • Significant experience of data at scale in an extremely secure environment
  • Steeped in infrastructure as code in an AWS environment, including personally building in Terraform
  • Steeped in all the latest developments in cloud computing, AWS in particular, and contemporary, valuable tooling.
  • Steeped in the real-world application of security, at scale
  • Significant experience in a very large scale agile environment, having delivered and supported in such an environment.
  • experience in leading technical teams and delivering user-focused services
  • strong software development and application architecture experience, with good knowledge of open source technologies, testing and at least one programming language
  • understanding of how to influence senior management and communicate with both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Experienced in dealing safely with data protection and all other relevant laws.
