Application Support Specialist (Financial Services) - Manchester - c£35K-£45K plus benefits

Our client seeks to appoint several Application Support Specialists with a background in Financial Services. You will be responsible for:

  • Provide 1st / 2nd and 3rd line Application Support to Incidents and Service Requests logged with the Service Desk, ensuring service tickets are resolved in a timely manner and with a high degree of customer service and expertise.
  • Working on change requests and contributing to projects to continuously improve business applications.
  • Includes set up, commissioning, install, security plus user access and license management.
  • Testing and implementation of approved patches / updates in accordance with Change Control management.
  • Managing integration with associated applications and interfaces, data management and replication.
  • Provision of performance reports to a diverse customer base including key stakeholders.
  • Systems administration and service ownership of all aspects of business applications and associated systems e.g. Collections, Payments, Litigation, Content Management and Document Management.
  • Ownership, progression and resolution of both service requests and incidents within agreed SLA, liaising with software vendors where applicable.
  • Integral member of Disaster Recovery operations.
  • Reporting to the Application Support Team Leader whilst working collaboratively with colleagues in all business areas.
  • Specify requirements for application server builds.
  • Work with other IT functions, in particular DBA and Development Teams to provide subject matter expertise on the application environment and how it integrates with other areas.
  • Work with 3rd party service providers to discuss enhancements, solutions and resolve incidents within SLA.
  • Follow the necessary IT processes to ensure integrity between test and production environments.
  • Provide out-of-hours support as required to support the business-critical applications.


We require the following skills and experience:

  • Application Support Analyst with experience of ERP, CRM and Accounting Applications
  • Good understanding of BI, SQL, SSIS, SSRS, SSAS
  • Office 365 suite – Intermediate level
  • Basic HTML, XML and Powershell scripting experience
  • Intermediate SQL Query experience
  • Excellent Customer Service & communication skills
  • Basic workflow experience
  • Knowledge of Business Process Management
  • Able to prioritise work under pressure and deliver to tight deadlines
  • Understanding of networking, IIS .NET and infrastructure principles


The following experience would be desirable but not essential:

  • ITIL Foundation certification highly desirable
  • Experience of Collections or Debt Management Systems
  • Document Management Systems
  • Citrix and Visual Files
  • Background in Financial services (PCI DSS, ISO 27001)
  • Ability to create and manage documentation, training and knowledge sharing.
  • Visual Cron or other automated scheduling software
  • Understanding of VMware
  • Knowledge of SharePoint or other intranet Content Management System
