Background

In his 2002 budget the Chancellor announced an increase in spending in the NHS of 44% up to 2007/2008, creating a total spend of £90 Billion.

This was followed by the launch of the Governments IT strategy for the NHS in England. This IT strategy, commonly known as "Connecting for Health", is designed to deliver 21st century IT support across the NHS by 2010.

Scotland, Wales and Ireland also have their own national clinical and e-health strategies. We are also actively involved in satisfying these requirements at both the Consultancy and NHS Trust level.

Aims and Objectives

Connecting for Health's aim is to improve patient care and services in the NHS through deployment of sophiscated IT. Over the next ten years it will connect over 30,000 GPs in England to almost 300 hospitals and give patients access to their personal health and care information, transforming the way the NHS works.

The design of the programme is to enhance the internal and external communication spectrum between patients, doctors, pharmacists, and consultants in the booking of appointments, the confirmation and collection of prescriptions and the recording of information flow between all parties.

The process of achieving this goal has been split into the following:

The approach to this programme must be firm, well informed and communicated in the most concise of manners. Although it is the IT infrastructure that is been focused on, the organisational change will affect each and every one of those involved in the NHS. This is where a high degree of two-way conversations must be established in order for LSPs to convince those affected to adopt the technology in the timescales set out.

Consultants are tasked with the engineering of process change, therefore it is a must that the NHS staff are appreciated and committed to what lies ahead for the duration of the programme.

SceneOne is renowned for innovative thinking when it comes to consulting and how we manage our understanding of the market at large. We are challenged with providing sound grounding on the National Programme to each candidate and client we speak with.
